Scars: Around the areola and / or vertical and / or horizontal

Final results: After 3 months

Social isolation: 7-14 days

Why?

Some women experience discomfort due to the weight or sagging of their breasts. This can lead to physical issues such as back or shoulder pain, and in some cases, it may also cause emotional or psychological distress. For these reasons, breast reduction is often considered not only for aesthetic purposes but also for medical relief.

During a breast reduction, excess breast tissue is removed, making this procedure different from a breast lift, which focuses mainly on reshaping and lifting the breast. A breast reduction can also be combined with a correction of the areola and/or nipple to further enhance the overall result.

The Procedure

A breast reduction typically takes between two and three hours and is performed under general anaesthesia. The procedure begins with an incision around the areola, followed by a vertical incision extending down to the natural fold beneath the breast. The surgeon then removes excess skin and/or glandular tissue, reshaping the breast. The nipple and areola are repositioned to a more natural, lifted position to achieve a balanced and aesthetically pleasing result.

Results and Postoperative Care

Stitches are typically removed around 14 days after the surgery.

The final result of the procedure becomes fully visible approximately six months post-op, once the swelling has subsided and the breast has adjusted to its new shape.

To support and enhance the healing process, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) can be an excellent addition to the recovery plan. By supplying the body with high levels of oxygen in a pressurised chamber, HBOT stimulates blood circulation, reduces inflammation, and promotes faster tissue repair.

HBOT wordt steeds vaker toegepast in postoperatieve zorg om het herstel te ondersteunen en complicaties te voorkomen.

At Be Clinic, HBOT and PICO dressings are available as complementary treatments to support a smoother, faster, and more effective recovery after surgery.
